Japan's Daisuke Sugie to face Vitor Shaolin in LEGENDS Supermatch at Grand Slam Tokyo on July 29th, 2018
Abu Dhabi Grand Slam® Tokyo will witness the return of the Legends series with Japanese black belt, Daisuke 'Amazon' Sugie who will face two-time Legends champion Vitor 'Shaolin' Ribeiro at the OTA Gymnasium in Tokyo on Sunday July 29th on the first leg of the Grand Slam jiu-jitsu world tour.
Daisuke “Amazon” Sugie, 37, is a Jiu-Jitsu black belt legend representing Carpe Diem team, Sugie is also a veteran MMA fighter with 18 bouts to his name.
“It is an honor for me to represent Japan at the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam here in Tokyo. The Legends series in the UAEJJF events is very prestigious and invitational, so to be invited, I am really excited to face Vitor Shaolin, he has achieved everything in Jiu-Jitsu and MMA and it will be a thrilling match no doubt.” Said Daisuke Sugie.
Vitor “Shaolin” Ribeiro, 39, has twice appeared at the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship Legends series. In 2017 Shaolin choked Kenny Florian unconscious, and in 2016 he submitted Daniel Moraes.
“This will be my third time at the Legends series but fist time outside of Abu Dhabi, so that is a new experience, and to do it against one of the best in Japan, Daisuke, it a moment of pride. All I can say is, it will be a special match for sure and I would like to thank the UAEJJF for their first class organization and hospitality.” Said Vitor Ribeiro.
The Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Tokyo® will feature some top athletes, including Mayssa Caldas, Amal Amjahid, Bianca Basílio, Nathiely Melo, Paulo Miyao, Tiago Bravo, DJ Jackson, Kaynan Duarte, Rudson Matheus, Guttemberg Pereira, João Gabriel Rocha, Gerard Labinski and more, who will look to add points to their UAEJJF rankings and compete for their share of over US$120,000 in prizes.
The Abu Dhabi Grand Slam® in Tokyo will run from 9:30am until 18:00pm (Tokyo standard time) on July 29th, 2018. The pre-date weigh-in will take place from 17:00pm to 19:00pm at OTA Gymnasium, Tokyo; the on-date early weigh-in will take place on the day of the event from 8:30am to 10:00am.
